Germano Almeida

Germano Almeida was born in 1945 on the island of Boa Vista, the Cape Verde. He studied law in Lisbon and lives on the island of Sao Vincente, where he works as a lawyer. In 1989 he founded the publishing house Ilhéu Editora. His best known novel The Testament of Sir Napomuceno da Silva Araújo, 1989, was made into a feature film. His other novels include My Poet, 1992, Fantastic Island, 1994, Two brothers, 1994, and Tales from the House, 1996.
The film 'The Testament of Sir Napomuceno', 1998, directed by Francisco Manso, was recently awarded the First Prize in the Latin-American Film Festival of Gramado, Brazil.
